The Tattooist

A short film that needs to be feature length, like, right now…

“Behind the acclaimed work of a renowned tattoo studio lurks an unimaginable evil.”

The slasher genre has its new champion, finally. Critically acclaimed writer and director Michael Wong offers a gripping, chilling glimpse at the deranged world of THE TATTOOIST in his short film. Take a look at the film here. It’s short, and NSFW, but really, really good.

The short film acts like a window to the sort of character many people will never understand. A psychopathic murderer with the patience to master his trade… not exactly the guy you want to be alone in a tiny room with for hours on end. And that’s exactly what his victims do, over and over and over, each hoping to prove deserving of his masterpiece, and worthy of surviving their deepest fears. It’s a true cautionary tale that I know a lot of people would be terrified to behold.

Like, who doesn’t have a friend who’d jump at the opportunity to get a free tattoo from a master artist, no questions asked? Right? Terrifying.

My only problem with it is its length. I want this movie to be feature length. I want stakes. I want to know how it’s possible he can run this shop if some of his best work ends up on dead people. I want to know who these victims are. Do they track him down? Did they do anything to deserve their fate, or is the Tattooist just a maniac with more artistic ability than decency?

One of my favorite things about a well made horror film is when it’s written in a way that makes you wonder who the real villain is? “SAW” comes to mind — that series was great not only for the genre but for film in general.

Does THE TATTOOIST have what it takes to recapture that magic? I certainly believe so and dozens of film festivals agree. So what’s it going to take to turn this into a feature length film already?

How about Hollywood stop rebooting Mike Meyers and give us what we really want — a jazz-loving, tattoo-drawing, Jigsaw with an endless string of sexy victims?
